This workshop will be designed to provide attendees with 1) a foundational training in human sex trafficking that includes definitions, background of human trafficking laws, barriers and gaps in services, and addresses issues of intersectionality and oppression that are often missing from the dominant narrative; 2) an overview of a multidisciplinary team model and opportunities to explore ways in which the removal of silos can transform preventative measures in addition to community and treatment outcomes in the domain of human trafficking; 3) an introduction to clinical interventions and safety planning when working with children suspected to and/or confirmed to be victims or survivors of human sex trafficking.
1.Attendees will learn to identify five risk factors for human sex trafficking in addition.
2.Attendees will be able to identify steps that can be taken as an initial response to suspected trafficking
3.Attendees will learn the current efforts under way in Vermont to address rising concerns of human sex trafficking, the components of a multidisciplinary team and the critical role that social work practice plays in this model
4.Attendees will learn about the intersections of cultural oppression, racism, and bias in the context human trafficking
5.Attendees will increase their understanding of the importance of individualized approaches to treatment when working with victims or survivors of human sex trafficking

About the Presenter
Aya Inoue, LICSW

Aya currently owns and operates her own private practice. She is a member of the State of Vermont Human Trafficking Task Force and the DCF Minor Sex Trafficking work group. She received her Professional Certification in Human Trafficking Prevention and Intervention (Florida State University) in 2021. She has partnered with agencies in the development and implementation of risk screening tools in addition to creating protocols and procedures to assist in trauma informed responses while working with victims and survivors of human sex trafficking.
